Curtis Laurence

About Curtis

I grew up in Victoria, TX and moved to Austin in 1995 to attend the University of Texas at Austin where I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Psychology followed by a master’s degree in Social Work. I started out my career working with children and adolescents at a residential treatment center and then for the state of Texas both as a caseworker and a supervisor. While I enjoyed these positions, I knew that my true calling was as a therapist, a role that I have been serving since 2007.

Outside of work, I enjoy time with my three dogs, working out, reading, and watching the Longhorns on the court or on the field.

Approach to Therapy

My therapy approach is collaborative in nature and outcome-informed in regards to technique and modality utilized. While I am trained in cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, emotional freedom techniques, and EMDR, I adapt the therapy to increase the likelihood of reaching your goals and the outcome of therapy you are looking for. This is accomplished by focusing on the common factors inherent in all therapy models that help produce positive changes, including personal strengths, resources, gaining new insights, showing empathy in the therapeutic relationship, obtaining and providing feedback, and monitoring progress throughout the therapy process.

During the initial session, an assessment of your strengths and needs will be completed, and we will develop potential goals to address your presenting concerns. Based on the assessment, I will provide you with an explanation of the treatment interventions that may be of help, and together we can explore your options.
